Welcome to the Robotron hardware identification repository, here you will find a collection of images and technical data for Robotron PCBs. Each PCB will also have notes on compatibility with other variants and links to schematics, SLICE projects and technical articles where available.
If you have any relevant PCBs that I do not have here I would be grateful if you would be able to take good quality photographs of both sides of them or loan them to me so that I can add them here.
The Robotron boardset is identical to that used in Joust and Splat! Additionally Stargate will run on this boardset with or without the Special Chips fitted to the ROM board.
Note that Joust/Robotron use Special Chip 1 and Splat! uses Special Chip 2 on the ROM board.
The prototype boardset used a heavily modified Defender CPU board, a ROM board similar to the Production D8730 Stargate ROM board and a custom board that performed the functionality found in the Special Chip 1s on the ROM board of production games.

This Prototype CPU was a heavily modified Defender CPU board.
The Joust boardset is identical to that used in Robotron and Splat! Additionally Stargate will run on this boardset with or without the Special Chips fitted to the ROM board.
Note that Joust/Robotron use Special Chip 1 and Splat! uses Special Chip 2 on the ROM board.
The Bubbles boardset is unique as it has additional CMOS RAM on the CPU board and a different pinout between the CPU and ROM boards, therefore these boards cannot be mixed with other games. The earlier games of Stargate, Robotron, Joust and Splat! will run on this board as they will ignore the extra CMOS RAM.
Note that Splat! uses Special Chip 2 on the ROM board.
